How to overcome the Sunday evening blues

Whether you love or hate your job, sometimes it’s easy to get that feeling on a Sunday evening. Who doesn’t love going to sleep knowing their 7am alarm is going off for five days, after a wail of a time this weekend? Yep! Just love it.

If you’re feeling a bit blue this Sunday, or recovering from a manic, fun-filled 48 hours, remember this: it’s the perfect time to rest, recover and re-set yourself for the days ahead. Ditch the dwelling and spend it by taking a positive outlook on the new week ahead. It’s going to be a great week and you’ll smash whatever you put your intelligent and creative mind to.

Here’s some self-care tips that will help you overcome the Sunday evening blues, having you Monday-ready in no time.

Channel your inner positivity

Pause what you’re doing and the social media scrolling for a couple of precious moments. Breathe, take a moment to appreciate and think about your closest friends, family and everything that is going well in your life right now. We’re all human, which means that sometimes we’re susceptible to focusing on traits, skills and things that perhaps, aren’t going so great at the moment. Spending a little time appreciating these will help dampen negative thoughts and flourish positive thinking. This will give you the confidence you need to throw yourself into the week, and be successful whilst doing it. 

Make a list

What do you want to achieve this week? Write it down and plan how you’ll tick off your to-do’s – there is no better feeling. Whether it’s to do with work, fitness or your social life, no matter how small, it’s going to be an achievement either way! Try planning out exactly how you aim to complete them. 

Tidy your room and living space

Organise your room and play some music. Whether it be chilled sleeping sounds or your favourite tunes (hint: the ‘Guilty Pleasure’ playlist on Spotify works wonders, thank me later), it will help to de-clutter your mind, as well as your actual space! Experts say that this role of organisation and being ‘tidy’, builds into other areas of life. Plus, I would argue that singing along to your most-loved favourites should be classified as an official form of therapy.  

Treat yourself

    What a great post and so helpful. I dread going to my 9 to 5 all week and usually feel a little depressed on Sunday evenings. I will be implementing these tips into my Sunday evening routine.

    These are such lovely things to do on a Sunday to try and not feel down. I like to tidy up my bedroom, do my washing and hoover, to start the week off in a clean and tidy space. I like to fill in my planner and write my to-do lists for the week. Thank you for sharing these tips! However I do love a lazy Sunday too😊.

    I really love this post, Rebecca! It’s such a positive way to look at Sunday evenings. I’m such a planner geek and love the thought of writing lists and making plans for the upcoming week. My favourite Sunday evening task is to decorate my planner with washi tape and stickers, so it all looks colourful and cheerful. I also love having a bit of a pamper evening too, having a bath and watching some Netflix is always the perfect end to the weekend.     Some great tips in there…A bit of Sunday pampering is always a good thing 🙂 I’ve also started focusing more on planning so I don’t leave everything until the last minute!

    I always get that ‘back to work’ feeling but these are such good tips. Sometimes being actively positive really helps and I can always get behind treating yourself!
